Lavender Essential Oil
Did you know lavender is referred to in the Bible as “spikenard”? The Egyptians used it in mummification and as a perfume. The Romans used it for cooking, bathing, and freshening the air.
Lots of people believe that lavender originated from France, but actually, lavender originates from Mediterranean, Middle East and India and its history goes back some 2500 years. It is well known that Lavender comes from France, because of a French scientist who was first to discover lavender’s healing properties for skin when he burned his arm in an explosion in his laboratory.
Lavender is one of the most useful oils in the world. Its properties are very known, especially for calming nerves, having a good night sleep and to freshen aromas in perfumes, soaps, fresheners and beauty products.
Lavender oil is extracted from the flowers of the plant, primarily through steam distillation.
Medicinal properties: antiseptic, antifungal, analgesic, vasodilating, anti-inflammatory, combats excess sebum on skin.
Ways to use lavender
- migraines and headache: one drop in your hands and inhale.
- decongestant
- effective on dry or irritating skin
-helps reduce acne: apply directly on skin or with a carrier oil.
-eczema: I mixed 1 spoon of coconut oil with 4 drops of lavender and I applied on my son’s hands. The next morning all his eczema was gone.
-provides pain relief
-strengthens immune system: inhale or diffuse
-add 2 drops in your mascara for healthy lashes
- help reduce allergies
- diffuse, inhale, or rub at the bottom of your feet for a good night sleep
-relaxes muscles and releases tension
- for a sunburn, mix with coconut oil and apply on skin: reduce pain, redness and irritation.
-put 2-3 drops in your hands and on the pillow to help you sleep
- diffuse when have feelings of anxiety
- very good for cuts and burns
-calms nerves – put a drop in the palm of your hand and inhale. For a better effect you can add a drop of frankincense too.
- lavender mixed with frankincense and Melrose essential oil make a good moisturiser for the skin: use 5 drops each in a carrier oil (coconut, jojoba or at your desire).
-make bath salts: in a small jar add 4-5 drops of lavender essential oil and mix it. Add a spoon to your bath.
- makeup removal: mix one drop of lavender with coconut oil and apply around the eyes. Take a cotton ball and remove the makeup.
-lavender with orange make a great hand sanitizer. Mix 30 ml aloe vera gel with 15 drops of lavender and 5 drops of orange in a 30 ml. bottle.
- deodorant: rub 2-4 drops of lavender oil under armpit area.
- insect bites: put a drop on a bee sting or insect bite to stop itching.
